176019 PKRL explores the practical legal issues confronting military officers and civilians who are engaged in providing peacekeeping and coalition stability operations and peace support operations throughout the world. Recent participants have included individuals identified to take command of national peacekeeping operations contingents in various locations throughout the world.
Recommended Attendees:
This program is designed for military officers and civilian officials assigned to leadership positions in support of national efforts in coalition stability and peacekeeping operations. Staff advisors, attorneys and national peacekeeping institute faculty members will also benefit from participating in this course.
Course Focus:
Participants have direct interaction with leading policy and decision-makers at the United Nations and in Washington, D.C. during this practice-oriented program. Course participants visit both New York and Washington, D.C. during the program to participate in lectures, which are later used in practical exercises drawn from real world case studies drawn from today’s headlines. A special “mini-course” in negotiation and mediation skills is offered by visiting instructors from the U.S. Institute of Peace (USIP).Themes for this program include:
