Defense Institute of International Legal Studies (DIILS) RIO FACTSHEET SUMMARY
DILLS MEMBERS COLLABORATIVE PORTAL USES THE REGIONAL INTERNATIONAL OUTREACH NETWORKING SYSTEM (RIO).
WHAT IS RIO?
RIO is a dynamic and secure web site designed to further U.S. international outreach efforts. A major benefit of this collaboration will be the growth of Communities of Interest (COI) groups like Combating Corruption, Combating Terrorism, Human Rights, Military Law and Peacekeeping.
WHAT DOES IT DO?
RIO is the gateway to a wide range of integrated capabilities that provides users with the ability to:
Collaborate with other member’s.
Share knowledge and updates on coursework, calendars and events.
Create new opportunities for subject-matter discussions.
Search through resources on topics of interest.
Deliver Content through publish and subscribe mechanisms.
Communicate using the latest electronic tools.
Maximize the organization and distribute content so that it reaches many people with relevant information among users and international subject-matter experts.
WHY IS IT NECESSARY?
RIO enhances communication. This social outreach, facilitated by RIO technology, includes: chat rooms, country/regional or topical groups, blogs, video and/or telephone conferencing (in the next release of the website), updates on events, visits and other activities.
HOW WILL PARTICIPANTS BENEFIT FROM RIO?
Users of this robust system will gain unparalleled access to the following:
At-a-Glance: Know what is going on among current and upcoming events, calendars, schedule of classes, conferences, etc.
Real World Applicability: Participants will have the capability to communicate instantly with other users using the latest instant text messaging tool, interact with one another and draw on relevant subject-matter expertise.
Share Knowledge with Civilian, Military and Academic Experts: The COI’s will bring together experts from a host of nations and the U.S. for discussions and cooperation on various topics of interest. As a result, RIO participants will gain new insights, knowledge and perspectives from one another.
Network Opportunities: RIO is a communications system. It facilitates networking and outreach activities among users and organizations across the civilian, military and academic worlds.
Secure Delivery: Users are assured that the information they exchange is maintained in a federated and secure environment, and delivered only to intended recipients or made public as defined by the user.

1. Attendees at DIILS Resident Courses in Newport, RI USA or attendees at DIILS Mobil Courses based upon a list of seminar attendees.
